The St. John's Sarafina Dance group was started in 2015 and is made up of a group of thirty young women from the outreach center. GUMBOOT DANCE TEAM

Vincent "Dube", a staff member at St. John the Divine, saw that the older kids at the center needed something to keep them off the streets, something to excite them, keep them entertained and focus them.... the answer? A Gumboot Dance Group!

The group was formed with just five kids participating in weekly practices, however, since that time, the group has tripled! It now has 15 children, 10 boys and 5 girls, working hard to synchronize their steps into one smooth performance, lead by their faithful 'General' Dube.

SEWING GROUP

To learn a skill or to delight in completing a craft is something we enjoy seeing the children partake in here at the outreach center. Mother Janet is a huge blessing as she teaches young girls how to sew and make memory bracelets amongst other items.

SPORTS

Kids have lots of energy and therefore we like to keep them physically active and having fun by playing netball and soccer. We are in great need to more sports equipment and grass for our dirt field. Please consider supporting us in these areas: Donate.

LIBRARY & TOY CLOSET

Children love toys, board games, and books! We have a small library of these items that the children are able to loan out for one day. The books are also used during homework help, story-time and to improve the youth's literacy.

We always appreciate donations of the above items; please contact us regarding any donations (we are happy to collect them).

COMPUTER CLUB

Computer literacy is vital if our children are going to succeed in today's society - educationally and careerwise.

This is an area in which we need donors to come alongside us and support us by donating computers or funds to purchase the necessary equipment to help our children to have a brighter future.

FOOD & STAFF SUPPORT

FOOD DISTRIBUTION

WEEKLY HOT LUNCH PROVIDED

After attending school, the children come spend the rest of the afternoon at the outreach center, whereby after registering, they can fill their hungry bellies with some wholesome food.

Generally, a hot meal is always served, as for some of the children, this may be their only hot meal of the day. Vegetables and herbs (as available) from our veggie garden help to add extra sustenance and flavor to the meal.

STAFF TRAININGS

We highly value our staff members! Without them, we would not be able to serve the most vulnerable children in our community. Therefore, we strive to provide them with the necessary training they need to excel in their work. These include: Self-Care, Computer Literacy, ECD, Leadership & Management, etc.
